This weeks wedding tip is on: Wedding Vows. My husband and I did not write our own vows, not really sure why, but it was one less thing to worry about.
Below is a sample of a traditional wedding vow:
I, (Groom's Name), take you (Bride's Name) to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold So I give you my life to keep So help me God.

In unison: Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you, For where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. And where you die, I will die and there I will be buried. May the Lord do with me and more if anything but death parts you from me.
Aww- tears, tears, tears... "You may now kiss the bride"
Here are 3 key steps in writing your own vows:
- Make sure you check with your officiant and confirm what you need to include. There are usually many religions where you need to have certain phrases.
-Take time to write them out and really think about what you love about your partner and add your own touch.
-PRACTICE, Practice, PRACTICE.
I have been to a wedding where the bride was so emotional that she couldn't get her vows out like she wanted to..Of course you are going to be emotional, but the more you practice, the easier the words will come out.
I would love to know if you are planning to write your own wedding vows or using the traditional vows?? Enjoy!

ReplyDeletewe wrote our own. I am so happy we had a videographer to capture the whole experience. I did PRACTICE a lot.
ReplyDeleteWe used traditional vows. Our priest advised us how great traditional vows are and we went with it. Too stressful to write our own.
