Start thinking about your Honeymoon

Planning the wedding is overwhelming enough, but you need to start thinking about where you want to go on your honeymoon.

I have had many friends get married and I love hearing all their honeymoon stories and advice.

  • If your adventurous- I would suggest Africa or Costa Rica
  • For culture and some great food- I hear Italy is beautiful
  • For a romantic ski trip- head over to Colorado. (My fiance wants to go- but since we are having a summer wedding, this does not work so well)
  • For beautiful beaches- check out Hawaii
  • If you want some fun and to stay in the states- I would suggest Las Vegas
  • And the most affordable would be Mexico
You and your Fiance need to be on the same page when planning the honeymoon. You need to discuss your budget, your dream location, and of course pick a place with great food!

Traditionally the groom ( or grooms parent's) would pay for the honeymoon. This day more and more bride and grooms pay for the honeymoon themselves. You need to find an amount your are comfortable with and stick to it. If you have your heart set on a special place, but it is very pricey, maybe only stay at that hotel a night or two and a more reasonable hotel the other nights.

On that note- discussing how long of a honeymoon you would like ( or can afford to take) is also important. Do you want to leave for your honeymoon following your reception, a few days later or even a few months later?

Most honeymoons last a week- but that is also based on your budget.

Always make sure there are many activities you can do during the day. Here are a few to consider: Boating, snorkeling, spa treatments, fishing, hiking, jogging, kayaking, golf, scuba diving, skiing, shopping, tennis and sight seeing.

If you want to make your money go further these days, an all-inclusive resort or a cruise is your best bet.

Check out Sandals for some great all-inclusive deals. Their website has 60% off specials sometimes and I signed up for emails and always hear about the best deals.

Now to my favorite choice- A cruise!! You can get a great 7-14 day cruise at a very affordable rate depending on where you are traveling from. As I am in Florida- the port of Miami and Fort Lauderdale are only an hour or two away. If you have never cruised before I would not suggest it for a honeymoon. You are better off taking a short weekend cruise to make sure you do not get sea sick!! (I have heard some stories- so a test cruise is always ideal).
Here are some cruise sites if you want to check them out:
Carnival Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

Check out the Top 10 Eco-Honeymoon Resorts on Brides.com here.

You can always try a local travel agent for some help!! Hope this gets you to start thinking and planning your honeymoon. I would love to hear if you have any more advice. Enjoy!

Publix, CVS and Walgreens deals

It has been a crazy week- but I made a few stops this weekend.

I had to run into Publix last night to get a cake for my friend's game night party. Cake was $2.99.

I also bought Dole fruit cups: BOGO FREE $2.49 and I used 2 $0.75 off coupons (from Sunday's paper last week)

Not in picture: Weight Watchers Rigatoni Frozen meal 50% off: paid $1.29 (Wow- I just picked up one, but will stop back before Wednesday and get some more).

I also stopped into Walgreens next door to Publix to pick up the Car Air Freshner that is on the January rebate. I got the last one =)

Today I stopped at CVS and got:
-3 Gillette Shampoos (1 is not in picture- already upstairs for my fiance to try). $4.99 each, used (3) $2 off coupons and got back $3 extra care bucks for each ($9 total in ecb's)
-Trident Gum 3 pack $2, used $1 off coupon
-CVS tissues, $0.50 - great 2 day sale (Sunday and Monday only- so stock up).

I had a $5 off $15 from CVS- so I made sure to get my total over $15. I rolled over my extra bucks from my Hallmark card deal from earlier in the week and ended up paying $0.86!!!

Sorry my post was all over the place!!

Check back tomorrow morning for a great DINNER deal tomorrow night! Enjoy!

Game Night

What better way to spend a Saturday night then with a group of friends. We were looking for a cheap way to get together- and Game Night it was. We all brought a different game. We got together at my friend Pamela's house and there were 6 couples. We ended up ordering Pizza and the host made a salad and had some snacks.

Here's a bunch of the games we played:
Taboo
Scrabble
Pictionary
Catchphrase
Monopoly- we didn't get a chance to play this one
Wii- The host had this and we had so much fun bowling, the men ended the night playing Rock Band

Taboo was my favorite and we played women vs. men. Of course the women won- but it was so much fun. It's great watching men scream out crazy answers. Have you ever played?

The key is to just let loose and have fun. The more the merrier, but having too many people can get out of hand also.

Have you started a Game Night with your friends? My friend sent out an evite. Send your own Game Night evite here! Enjoy!

Revlon Colorstay eye shadow $2.49 ($4.99 w/ 50% off)
6 Hallmark birthday cards $.99/ each

$1 off any Revlon Color Cosmetic Product (exp. 3/16/09)

Extra bucks deal: When you buy (3) Hallmark cards, get $3 extra bucks- limit 5. (Check your ad). The $.99 cards count towards the deal. My CVS did not have a great selection of $.99 cards- so I got what they had.

Now I have a nice stack of birthday cards and some new makeup. There were many makeup brands with 50%-75% off. Make sure to check for the stickers (as you see they are pink in my picture for 50% off).

Bride Wars and some TV gossip

So how many of you have seen the movie? I have been meaning to get out and see it, and finally got the chance today. I know there have been some harsh reviews out there, but I loved it. Well of course if you know me-you would say I would love the movie. I love bridal movies, chick flicks and of course Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.

I won't give too much details- as some of you probably haven't had the chance to get out and see it. As both girls are planning their weddings at the same time- they both want to get married at the Plaza Hotel (if you have read the shopaholic collection- it reminds me of Becky). I was laughing the whole time and it really was a touching movie.

And now for the gossip...

On January 15, 2009 it was announced that Lipstick Jungle is not yet cancelled and could be brought back for episodes based on how the new pilots are doing. Read the gossip here. I am keeping my fingers crossed. If Kirby comes back as well my year will be made. Enjoy!

Wedding Centerpieces

Traditionally, the centerpieces at wedding receptions are elaborate floral arrangements. Over the last few years brides have been creating their own visions of the perfect centerpiece. All brides want their wedding to be as memorable as possible. Budgeting is a big factor these days, as prices are rising. Some of the most elegant, unusual and unforgettable decorations can exist even on a budget.

No two weddings are the same - so it stands to reason centerpieces should be unprecedented. Many weddings have a theme which calls for a truly unique centerpiece. Do you know the three most common items used in a centerpiece? Flowers, candles and vases. The decorations at the center of your guests’ tables deserve careful attention.

One common style I like uses a large glass bowl, filled with water dyed in shades of your wedding colors. You can float candles inside which will add a romantic touch. Another option would be to fill the bowls with colored glass pebbles, which you could buy in most craft stores. Match the colors to your wedding, and you could place flowers inside.

Here are a few more budget friendly secrets I have seen:

-Take glass bowls and fill each with water. Add a drop of food coloring to coordinate with your colors, and float several tea lights in each bowl.

-A pair of tall candles in holders looks striking, especially when you put some flowers around.

-If you are using cut flowers for the reception centerpiece, you can purchase vases at the dollar store. They have some great finds. Just remember if you find a vase you like- buy them up, because most likely they wont be there next time.

-Arrange picture frames with pictures of the couple on each table.

-Place a single large basket in the center of each table. Fill the basket with the guests' favors and tie a nice bow on the basket to match your color scheme.

-Seeing Double These Days-

You can cut down on the overall costs of the reception by having your centerpieces serve double duty: as favors, other decorations, or part of the meal.

-If you have enough bridesmaids’ bouquets, place one on each table after the ceremony. If not, you could line the sweetheart table with the bouquets.

-If you plan on serving wine at the reception, arrange a bottle of wine for each table in a basket.

-If you plan on giving out favors to guests, arrange these in the center of the table in lieu of a centerpiece.

-Need to save on photographer costs- buy disposable cameras and place a bunch on each table.

And my favorite idea: (which I have seen) Rather than one large wedding cake, have the baker make a cake for each table. Your guests will love all the choices for dessert and you got some great centerpieces.

Remember when choosing centerpieces, select those that go along with your color scheme and the theme of your wedding. Be creative and your vision will come true. If you have some extra time check out all the wonderful centerpieces and flower ideas on Brides.com. Enjoy!

Finding a Wedding Florist

Wedding planning can be overwhelming at times, but finding a good florist in your area should not be. I suggest buying a few wedding magazines and looking through to see what floral designs you like. Usually I will mark the pages and look back a day later to see if I still love the floral designs.

To get you started, here is a bunch of beautiful bouquets to choose from. Once you know what you like then you must find a local florist that can create your vision. Brides.com has a great website(which I used when choosing a florist) and a great list of questions to bring with you to your appointment. Check it out: here.

As we are all brides on a budget these day, make sure to check out these savvy savings tips:
Choose flowers that are in season, stick with one bloom, keep your arrangements small and use candles as much as possible. For the full list, click here. I am sure there are many great florists in your area, but if you need any additional help, just email me. Now that you are thinking about flowers- I will discuss centerpieces next week..Happy Florist hunting..Enjoy!

e.l.f. makeup- New Year, New You!

Have your heard of the new makeup line e.l.f. (eyes lips face). I got to try some new e.l.f. products this week. I got my package yesterday.

Here is what I got:

-Long Wear Lip Liner which comes with a sharpener. I got the color Spice #1905.

-Waterproof Eyeline Pen- I got the color Coffee #7301

-Smudge Eye Sponge

-Lip Gloss Cherry Bomb- Comes as a FREE gift with most orders

I used all my products this morning and was very happy! I tend to buy my makeup at MAC, but for $1 a product I could not believe how great they were. The eyeliner pen was so easy to use and stayed on all day. The lip liner stayed on all morning, but after I ate it started fading. The eye sponge was soft and worked well to smudge in my eye shadows. I would definitely recommend trying e.l.f. for some affordable makeup and I can’t wait to try more of their products. Check out their website Happy Shopping. Enjoy!
